Amazing comes in every shape and form

It really does.  Each and everyday I get the opportunity to interact with amazing women.

Recently, some of you would have seen me introduce Wei Ying to you all on Facebook.  I’m so excited that Ying has joined me at Platform of Women, and has taken to the journey like a duck takes to water.  While searching hard for an accounting role, whereby she can utilize her academic skills and knowledge, she spends time researching amazing stories for women, about women.

I asked Ying to write her own introduction – I wanted her to share her story.  When you meet Ying, please don’t be fooled by her quiet demeanor. She may be quiet, but she is certainly an achiever.

Here is Ying’s own introduction – (I would love you to take a few minutes to drop by and welcome her…CaAtherine…x)

Leaving my Malaysian home for the first time, I arrived in Melbourne on the 19 February, 2011 to begin a whole new journey.  Little did I realize where that journey would take me.

I came to Melbourne to further my university studies and complete my Accounting degree, while gaining more life experience. I wanted to experience this new world as part of my growing process, while learning to become independent.

I never imagined, that through my studies and time at uni, would I meet so many remarkable people; I would have never encountered these people if I had remained in Malaysia.  I got the opportunity to meet new friends from around the world. Also helping me develop were the amazing mentors and advisers; many will never know that even the smallest of interactions can leave a lasting impression and does matter.

Without a doubt the highlight of my time at uni was, while serving as President of ENACTUS I got to travel to the ENACTUS World Cup, in Washington DC. It definitely opened up my eyes to different perspectives and attitudes. The most important piece of iknowledge I left this competition with is, is that life is about giving back.

platform of women

After finishing my studies I was fortunate enough to be invited to join CaAtherine at Platform of Women (PoW).   I have to admit I knew I was looking to get involved with positive and inspiring people, but wasn’t sure how I was going to go about it.   Now I am on board at Platform I cannot wait to see it grow even more – and be able to ‘share the love’ with women around the world, and be part of the team that creates a connection between successful and inspirational women and women who may be slightly hesitant to share their stories.

Through Platform of Women I want to be able to tell all women that if I can do what I love, they can too!

Ying…x

Another Wonder Woman Gone

At a dinner party last week someone asked me why I always had mentors in my life, and why were they important to me?  It’s easy really  -  I always need to keep learning and surround myself with people who have more, and different experiences than I do.  Each time I choose a mentor IContinue Reading

Mum’s the Word

At this time of year I really miss my Mum. Mum, Nancy – or some of us affectionately refer to her as Nance, was bloody amazing. Nance lost her battle to breast cancer 13 years ago, when she was 80 years young.  At the time people would say well-meaning, stupid things such as; ‘oh,Continue Reading

Great Support Is Not Just a Good Bra

As an amble bossomed, fuller figured woman a supportive bra has been a neccessity in my life since my teens.  I can guarantee, and with confidence, that I would fail the infamous ‘pencil test‘.  Like many of my large breasted ‘sisters’, I imagine you feel a little cheated when it comes to buying beautiful, sexy,Continue Reading

Five Things I Know About Human Rights

With so much in the news lately about the crisis in Syria and Afghanistan, and the former Hey Dad! actor arrested and to face child sex charges, I started thinking about the survivors and their basic human rights. LIVING PORTRAIT – Yes, She Is Breathing

LIVING PORTRAIT SERIES When many of us think of a ‘living portrait’ we  immediately think of a large classic painting or photo hanging over an ostentatious fireplace or the entry of a spacious foyer, watching over each passerby.  Then there are the historical ‘living portraits’ of our ancestors that have been tucked away for safe keeping. WhenContinue Reading

Champers, Shiraz, Cosmos

I cannot lie – I used to love a chilled, quality champers. Then, on 28 December 2011 I made a decision that I would not quaff a glass of Mumm, Amberley Estate, Plantagenet Omrah, a Cosmopolitan or any of my other favoured alcoholic beverage for one year. Why you ask?  I just wanted to proveContinue Reading
