For years I used to be one of those people who envied those who travelled to glamorous locations for their work, staying in five and four star hotels, room service and the like. Then a few years ago I became one of them – I had a fabulous job in casting that saw me flying around the country every couple of weeks; staying in hotels where the concierge would greet me by name, and the barista at breakfast always remembering how I had my coffee – flat white, no froth. My beautiful friends thought I lived an amazing life. So did I. That is till the amazing wore out after the second month. I began craving my own pillow and the dip in the mattress. Okay, I may have been able to crank up the frequent flyer points and save on the power bill, but I still missed my own bed. I lasted six months.
Since then I’ve been blessed that I get to work in a positions that allows me to travel for work a couple of times a year. On top of that there are the trips back to visit the family in WA at least a couple of times a year. Throw in an overseas holiday every couple of years and I’m a happy woman, – or so I thought.
Last week I attended a fantastic student centric conference at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne and was fortunate enough to
be given the opportunity to stay for a few nights. Someone had to play ‘mum’ and keep an eye on the students. I have to tell you beautiful people – I LOVED IT! I wanted to move Venus and Saturn in and never leave. I loved everything from the blissful pillows; to the king-sized bed; to the bath large enough to accommodate my fuller figure. Now, don’t get me started on the Fig & Almond bath gel and body lotion. (of course I liberated the spares!) As for the room service – definitely five-star. The food – amazing. No, this is not a paid posting – I am generously sharing my positive experience with you all – spoil yourself and try checking lastminute.com.au for a stay-cation.
This experience had me thinking:
- As retirement softly knocks on my door is there a five-star retirement village out there that matches the Grand Hyatt standard – must take cats?
- What is the most amazing hotel experience you would love to share?
In case you were wondering, the conference was fantastic and a huge success. Both Saturn and Venus are happy to have me home – and my bed is nearly as happy to have me back.
Happy Monday my gorgeous friends.

You are amazing CaAth. We should all live five star
1. I hear from my brother in law (who is in the retirement village business) that there are such mythical places, they’re actually getting more common. His is nice too (www.sugarvalley.com.au) and they have good taste in art there.
(A few Manisha Lee originals!)
2. Have also been lucky enough to experience five star awesomeness through work, art and other adventures… love the bland bliss, but the two that stand out for me aren’t chains. One of them probably doesn’t even have stars. A small converted mansion in Udaipure, northern India (Kankarwa Haveli) made for a magically romantic stay with Mr Lee. And the much higher end, but very quirky Miller’s Hotel in London. Loved the old-world glamour, kitsch and the open bar for Miller’s Gin!
